Mercedes-Benz India is set to unveil the prices for the EQS Maybach electric SUV on September 5. The EQS Maybach SUV, which made its debut in China last year, will join the Mercedes-Maybach GLS SUV in the brand’s India lineup. It is the brand’s flagship electric SUV globally and will receive Maybach-specific design, feature and tech upgrades to differentiate it from the standard EQS SUV. This highly anticipated vehicle is expected to be the most expensive electric SUV available in the country.
The EQS SUV features chrome highlights on the outside and a plethora of Maybach logos, similar to the facelifted Mercedes-Maybach GLS that recently went on sale in India. The sealed-off black panel at the front mimics a grille with radar sensors for ADAS and vertical chrome strips give it a 3D appearance. The upper part of the false grille, like other Maybach models, features chrome writing that reads “Maybach”.
On the sides, the Maybach EQS SUV gets more chrome on the window line and B-pillar and an additional Maybach logo on the D-pillar. It also gets “EQS” embossed on the window frame, similar to the standard EQS SUV. Wheel and tire choices include 21- or 22-inch alloy and forged wheels with Maybach lettering. Factory-fitted illuminated running boards finished in anodised aluminium are also available. The dashboard of the EQS SUV is similar to the regular EQS SUV, with three different screens with Maybach-specific graphics. The rear seat entertainment package includes two 11.6-inch displays on the front seatbacks and the MBUX tablet at the rear, which can be used outside the vehicle.
India will only get the top-spec 680 variant, which comes with 4Matic AWD tech as standard and has up to 658hp and 950Nm of total output. Overseas, the Maybach EQS also comes in 580 4Matic form, with a power output of 544hp and a range of up to 456km. More details on the Mercedes-Maybach EQS SUV will be revealed closer to its launch.
Mercedes-Maybach is set to launch the Mercedes-Maybach EQS 680 in India on September 5, marking the company’s entry into the electric car segment. The SUV will feature two motors that power the wheels through an AWD setup, producing a total power output of 649 bhp and 950 Nm of maximum torque. It can accelerate from a dead stop in 4.4 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 210 kmph. The 108 kWh battery can be charged with a 22 kW AC charger or a 200 kW DC fast charger for up to 220 kilometers after 15 minutes.
The Maybach EQS 680 shares many design elements with the standard EQS, but it is unmistakably a Maybach with its luxury features. The interior of the SUV includes a dashboard with three screens called the ‘MBUX Hyperscreen’ infotainment package, calibrated with Maybach special themes and colorways. On the rear, there are two 11.6-inch screens for entertainment and an MBUX tablet for post-ride use. The MBUX interior uses cameras to track hand and body movements for multiple functions. The executive seats provide ventilation, massage, and heating for the neck and shoulder, allowing passengers to enjoy their ride while sipping on a perfect drink.
The Maybach EQS 680 offers multiple Drive modes, including Eco, Sport, Offroad, and a special ‘Maybach’ mode that reduces body movements under the rear seats for better control. Rear-axle steering can achieve a max steering angle of up to 4.5 degrees for better control. Additionally, the Maybach EQS 680 has an AIrmatic air suspension with continuously adjustable damping that can increase the ground clearance by up to 35 mm.
