Sonam Kapoor has been named Dior’s new ambassador, signaling the brand’s interest in India’s booming market. With a strong following of 3.5 crore on Instagram, the Bollywood star will be the face of collections designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri, Dior’s creative director for womenswear.
According to WWD, Dior shared that Sonam Kapoor, known for her work as an actress, producer and style icon, now represents the bold and graceful spirit of the brand. This partnership highlights the strong cultural connection between Dior and India, a relationship that has been important to the fashion house since its early days.
Speaking to the publication, the actress said, “It’s an honour to be a part of Dior’s story as they continue to push the boundaries and redefine creativity and elegance in the world of fashion. Each of their collections present a truly unique vision with intricate craftsmanship, celebrating heritage in a way that deeply resonates with my own sense of style.”
Sonam Kapoor has turned her widespread popularity into partnerships with brands like L’Oréal Paris, Zoya Jewels and IWC. A familiar face in the front row, she even walked the runway as the bride for Ralph & Russo’s fall 2017 haute couture show in Paris.
Her appearance at Dior’s ready-to-wear show in September brought in INR 22 crore ($2.7 million) in media impact. The brand topped Paris Fashion Week once again, with a total media impact value of INR 695 crore ($82.7 million).
“This partnership is another step in the beautiful cultural synergy that has connected Dior and India over the years, and I’m excited to see where we take it next,” she further added.
India’s luxury market is booming, and global brands are eager to team up with local stars. Bulgari has partnered with Priyanka Chopra, Louis Vuitton with Deepika Padukone and now Tiffany & Co. has brought Ranveer Singh on board.
